When reviewing a contact’s path in an automation, you might notice that they have been manually added. This occurs when a contact is added to an automation through one of the following methods:

  1. Admin action:

    • A user manually edits the contact, either individually or in bulk, to add them to the automation.

  2. API integration:

    • The contact is added via a custom integration or a third-party tool connected through the API.

  3. Automation action – "Start an automation":

    • A contact is added by the 'Start an automation' action within another automation.

  4. "Add to automation" link in an email:

    • The 'Add to automation' action is included as a link in an email. When a contact clicks this link, they are added to the specified automation.

Important note

It is not possible to determine which specific method was used to manually add the contact to the automation. However, all methods achieve the same result—manually enrolling the contact into the selected automation.
