Campaign vs. Automation
Campaigns:
Best for one-time emails, like newsletters or time-sensitive promotions.
Can be fully customized to match your branding.
Sent immediately or scheduled for a specific date and time.
Automations:
Perfect for sending a series of emails automatically.
Set them up once, and they’ll take care of the rest.
Ideal for targeted, behavior-based communication with your contacts.
Automations give you the ability to engage your contacts effortlessly. Here are some examples of what automations can do:
Automatically send a welcome email series when someone signs up for your newsletter.
Send personalized emails to different groups of contacts based on their actions.
Move contacts to other lists automatically.
Identify inactive contacts and either tag them or send a re-engagement email.
Trigger emails based on specific behaviors, like a purchase or visiting a webpage.
How automations work
An automation starts when a trigger is activated. Triggers include:
Subscribing to a list (e.g., signing up for a newsletter).
Submitting a form on your website.
Being assigned a specific tag.
Visiting a particular page on your website.
Opening a campaign or clicking a link in it.
Once triggered, the contact enters the automation and follows a path you define. You can customize this path to include:
Sending emails.
Waiting for a set amount of time before the next action.
Assigning tags or moving contacts to different lists.
Within automations, you can add an If/Else split to create different paths based on specific conditions.
Example:
Contacts who click a link in your email can be tagged or moved to a new list.
Contacts who don’t click the link can be sent a follow-up email or a different tag can be assigned.
This level of customization is unique to automations and isn’t available when sending one-time campaigns.
