With the Google Ads integration, you can easily connect your Marketune account to Google Ads, enabling seamless ad targeting and personalized campaigns. This integration allows you to create new target audiences directly from your Marketune contact lists, automatically sync customer lists with Google Ads for precise targeting, and launch follow-up campaigns to nurture leads as soon as they submit a sign-up form.
Important to remember: To use this integration, a Google Ads account must be active. If you don’t have one, you can easily create a new Google Ads account directly from your Marketune account.

General about integration
The Marketune & Google Ads integration provides two key synchronization options: Lead Sync and Customer Match, enabling seamless audience management and lead nurturing.
Lead Sync enables new leads from Google Ads lead form submissions to be automatically synchronized with Marketune. This functionality is managed directly within the Google Ads App Listing page in your Marketune account.
With Lead Sync, new contacts are added to Marketune automatically once they submit a live Google Ads lead form. Additionally, Google Ads custom objects are added to the contact record, providing essential information such as the submitted form, submission time, and the data entered.
Lead Sync also introduces three new automation triggers to create more targeted workflows:
- "New Google Lead Form Submitted": Triggers when a lead form is submitted.
- "New Google Lead Form Updated": Triggers when a previously submitted lead form is updated.
- "Google Ads Tag is Added": Triggers when a Google Ads tag is applied to a contact.
Contacts synced via Lead Sync will be automatically tagged with the following, which will appear in their contact records:
- google-ads-integration
- google-ads-integration-YOUR_FORM_NAME
Customer Match allows you to re-engage existing customers, build stronger relationships, and reach new audiences who share similar characteristics - all through Google Ads.
By integrating Marketune with Customer Match, you can incorporate Google Ads actions into your automation workflows, ensuring targeted and efficient audience updates.
Note: Unlike Lead Sync, this feature does not add tags to a contact record.
With this integration, you can connect your Google Ads account to Marketune and perform the following automation actions:
1. Google Ads - Add Contact to List
Create a new customer list in Google Ads.
Add contacts to an existing customer list for retargeting.
2. Google Ads - Remove Contact from List
Automatically remove contacts from specific customer lists when they no longer meet targeting criteria.
Incoming Action: Lead Sync (step-by-step guide)
- In your Marketune account, go to "Apps" and search for Google Ads. If you’ve previously connected Google Ads to Marketune via automation, navigate to "Apps" → "Connected Apps" instead.
- Open the Google Ads Integration and click the "Add an Account" button.
- A modal window will appear, prompting you to click "Connect" and follow the authentication steps. If your Google Ads account is already connected, simply click "Select" to set up incoming actions.
- After completing the authentication, click "Continue".
- Choose the Google Ads account and the specific lead form you wish to sync with Marketune.
- Match the Google Ads form fields to their corresponding Marketune fields. If needed, click "Add Field Mapping" to include additional fields. Once you've finished, click "Finish".
Important: The email address field is mandatory in Marketune. Only forms that include an email field and have it correctly mapped to the Marketune email field will successfully sync contacts from Google Ads to Marketune.
Once you've successfully linked your Google Ads Lead Forms to Marketune, follow these steps to test the connection:
- Log in to Google Ads and navigate to "Campaigns" → "Assets".
- Select the Lead Form you want to test, then click on "Lead Forms" and find the enabled lead form you wish to verify.
- Scroll to the bottom of the lead form to locate the Webhook Details. The Webhook URL and key fields should automatically populate. Click "Send Test Data" to trigger a test submission.
- A test contact will be created in Marketune with the email address test@example.com. Check to confirm that the contact was created, the appropriate tags were applied, and that all custom object data is recorded. If you send test data multiple times, the "Form Receipt Date" field under custom objects should update with the latest date and time.
With Marketune automation actions, you can efficiently manage Google Ads customer lists and take full control of your ad targeting. These actions allow you to:
- Create new customer lists and find similar customers based on your existing audience.
- Exclude specific profiles from ad campaigns to refine targeting.
- Reactivate inactive customers and improve your ad engagement.
Marketune offers two key automation actions for Google Ads audience management:
- Automatically add contacts to a new or existing Google Ads customer list for retargeting and lookalike audience creation.
- Exclude specific contacts from Google Ads customer lists to optimize targeting and acquisition efforts.
Adding contacts to a Google Ads customer list
Access the automation section: Log into your Marketune account and go to "Automations." Choose to either edit an existing automation or create a new one.
Add the Google Ads action: Drag the "Google Ads - Add Contact to List" action from the "CX Apps" section in the action sidebar into your automation.
Connect your Google Ads account. A modal window will appear with the following options, where you should select one:
- If Google Ads is already connected, click "Select" to choose the linked account.
- If you need to connect a different Google Ads account, click "Add a new account."
- If this is your first time connecting, click "Connect" and follow the setup instructions.
Configure customer list settings. On the next screen, complete the following fields:
- Google Ads As: Choose your Google Ads Manager account.
- Manager account: If applicable, select the client account you want to use.
- Select customer list: Choose an existing Google Ads customer list or create a new one.
- Name your new customer list: If creating a new list, enter a name (no special characters like (!?) are allowed). Important: Do not use special characters (!?) in the list name. If no name is entered, the default will be "DefaultAudienceList_ActiveCampaign".
- Click "Close" to save your settings. Contacts will be added to the selected list automatically when they reach this step in the automation.
To immediately add existing contacts in bulk to your new or existing customer list:
- Make sure the automation is active.
- Go to "Contacts," segment your contacts as needed, and select "Edit all."
- Choose "Add to an Automation" and select the active automation containing the "Add Contact to List" action.
- Click "Apply" to update the list.
Important note: Clicking "Finish" will not create the customer list in Marketune. The list will appear in "Google Ads Audience Manager > Your Data" once contacts are synced from Marketune (ActiveCampaign) to Google Ads.
2. Drag the "Google Ads - Remove Contact from List" action from the "CX Apps" section in the action sidebar into your automation.
3. A modal window will appear with the following options:
- If Google Ads is already connected, click "Select" to choose the linked account.
