Migrating your contacts from Mailchimp to Marketune is a straightforward process. In this guide, we’ll walk you through each step, from exporting your contacts in Mailchimp to importing them into Marketune.
Mailchimp allows you to export contacts either as Lists or Segments. If you have multiple lists, you will need to repeat the export process for each one.
Tip: We recommend importing complete lists first, and then exporting segments for additional data if needed.
Export a list from Mailchimp
- Access your account and go to the main dashboard.
- Click on "Lists" at the top of the page.
- Click the name of the list you want to export. Click “Export list” and choose “Export as CSV”.
To export lists from the overall lists page (Alternative):
From the Lists page, select the list you want to export. Click the dropdown menu next to "Stats" and select “Exports.” After this action you’ll see a list of your exports marked with either a green checkmark or a yellow clock icon. Green checkmark means that your file is ready to download and yellow clock icon means that Mailchimp is still processing the export. Once you see the green checkmark, click “Export as CSV.”
Export a segment from Mailchimp
- Click on "Lists" in the main navigation.
- Click on the name of the list containing the segment you want to export.
- Click “View Saved Segments” and select the segment to export.
- Click “Export segment.” and choose “Export as CSV”.
Migrate general information and tags
- Go to your Marketune dashboard,
- Click on "Contacts" in the left menu, then select “Import”.
- Choose “Import from File” and select the CSV you exported from Mailchimp.
- Match the columns from your CSV to the corresponding fields in Marketune. If a field doesn’t exist yet, click “[Add New Field]” from the “Map into field” dropdown and create a custom field.
To import Mailchimp groups you need to do it separately from your general data. To do this:
- Log in to your Mailchimp account and go to Lists > Manage Contacts > Groups > View Subscribers > Export Segment.
- Import the exported segment file into Marketune.
- Assign a tag to these contacts to indicate their group membership.
- Check the “Update Existing Contacts” box. This option will add the new group information to contacts already in your database.
Recreate segments in Marketune
Marketune uses dynamic segments, which automatically update as contacts meet the set conditions. If you previously used segments in Mailchimp, you will need to recreate them in Marketune. Follow these simple steps:
1. Firstly, review your Mailchimp segments.
2. Go to Lists > Manage Contacts > Segments in Mailchimp to see your saved segments. Important: Make a note of the conditions used to create each segment.
3. Go to Marketune and recreate the segments using the same conditions.
After the segments are recreated contacts are automatically added to the segment when they meet the conditions.
Note: Marketune does not use static segments like Mailchimp. If you want to recreate a static segment you need to apply a tag to the contacts you want in the segment and use this tag as a condition when setting up the segment.
