To send emails through Marketune, you must authenticate your sending domain by adding specific DNS records with your hosting provider. This process ensures your emails are delivered reliably, protects against spoofing, and builds trust with your recipients.

Before you get started:
  • Domain authentication: You need to authenticate your domain and any subdomains before sending emails.

  • Processing time: DNS record updates may take up to 48 hours to fully propagate. This also applies to recently purchased domains (within the last 24-48 hours).

  • Comprehensive setup: The process includes everything you need for SPF, DKIM, and DMARC authentication.

  • Required for campaigns: Authentication is mandatory for all email types, including one-off campaigns, automated campaigns, 1:1 emails, and notifications.

    • If your domain is not authenticated, a warning will appear when attempting to send emails, prompting you to complete the process.

How to link your sending domain to Marketune
  1. Go to Settings:
Navigate to 'Settings → Advanced → Sending Domain' in your Marketune dashboard.

  2. Enter your domain:

    • Choose the (sub)domain you want to link and enter it in the text box labeled 'Enter your domain'.

    • Example: If your business email is you@yourdomain.com, your sending domain is yourdomain.com.

  3. Click 'Configure Domain':
A pop-up will display the DNS records you need to add to your hosting provider.

  4. Proceed to your hosting provider:

    • Add the provided DNS records (instructions below).

    • Any required adjustments will be highlighted in red in your Marketune dashboard.

Authenticating your sending domain with DNS records

Adding the DNS records ensures your emails are authenticated for SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, so your emails are reliably delivered and recipient trust is maintained. Additionally, it sets up a Custom Mailserver, allowing you to send emails from your own server instead of a shared one. This can also have a positive impact on your sending reputation.

General tips for setting up DNS records:

Although setting up DNS records goes beyond our scope, here are some tips and requirements that apply to most hosting providers!

  • Type: Use the correct type for each row (CNAME or TXT).

  • Name/Host:

    • Copy the "Name" exactly as shown in Marketune (e.g., acdkim1._domainkey).

    • Some DNS providers automatically append the domain name, while others require the full value (e.g., acdkim1._domainkey.yourdomain.com).

    • Check the format of existing DNS records in your provider's settings if unsure.

  • Value/Content: Copy the "Value" from Marketune for each record (e.g., dkim.acdkim1.acems1.com).

  • TTL: Use your provider's default setting or 300 seconds (5 minutes) if no default is given.

Checking if authentication is complete
  1. Return to Marketune:
Go to 'Settings → Advanced → Sending Domain'.

  2. Verify your domain:

    • Select your domain and click 'Recheck Verification'.

    • If successful, you’ll see a green indicator labeled 'Verified'.

If incomplete, a yellow indicator will show 'Not authenticated'.

Note: If verification fails, remember that DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate. This also applies to domains you have purchased in the last 24-48 hours.
